"Morning Commute"

Seattle, US

I got up early this morning to get this shot of the Seattle skyline and morning commuters on I-5. The temperature was quite cold for Seattle (in the 20s), and you can see the steam clouds rising from several of the buildings. The shot was taken from Jose Rizal bridge, just south of downtown Seattle. It was shot using a D7000 at a 10 second exposure.

Comments welcome, thanks for looking

Bob

Thanks Brent

I used the Nikkor 16-85mm zoom. I believe the focal length was set at 35mm.

I really like this, Bob. The ribbon-candy-like wrap of early-morning traffic really frames the skyline.

Thanks

It took a few shots before I got continuous line for the tail lights. I think traffic must have been moving slower in those lanes as it entered town.

I really like how the long exposure pulled the blue in the sky. It really sets off the buildings and their lights. Thanks for sharing.

Bob,

The auto lights from the lower left to the middle right leads the eyes of an observer right into the heart of your very beautiful image of your city. I have been there twice and it makes me want to go back.

Well Done!!!

Thanks Kevin, Tony, Kerry and Jim,

Most of my photography is done in the mountains, so this photo was something new for me. This summer, when the sky is further north, I would like to try to get a sunset shot from this location.

Dan, Escaladieu,

Thankyou.

Dan - It always seems to get colder down your way doesn't it. My brother lives not to far south of you in Rochester, and they always seem to get more snow and cold than us.

A very good picture, and the exposure is spot on, to have some detail in the shadow but still keep the light/dark contrasts. If the cloud of steam was not such a feature, I would suggest a panoramic crop, but the cloud adds interest to the sky.

A lovely shot of my hometown.

I remember when the Smith Tower (The building to the far left with the pointed roof and blue light) was not only the tallest building in Seattle but the tallest building West of the Mississippi River!

Bill, Allan, Hans, Scott,

Thank you for your kind comments.

Bill - I hope to shoot this at sunset later this year, and will keep in mind your suggestion for a panoramic crop.

Allan - I too remember when the skyline was dominated by the Smith Tower, and I-5 wasn't built yet. Can only imagine what it will look like in another 50 years!
