"Typical Winter"

Ottawa, CA

I'm the guy who for years put his camera away for the winter. This year I decided I would give it a go. There is obviously a lot to learn when it comes to cold weather, snow and shorter days. This was taken yesterday, typical outdoor hockey practice on an improvised rink, just before dusk. Quintessentially Canadian! Stumbled upon this scene in my effort to figure things out when my fingers barely work. Comments welcome!

35mm ISO 200 F9 at 1/500th.

Its a great shot, the lighting in winter, to me, adds enormously to a scene.

What film were you using here? I still shoot quite a bit of it myself.

Sorry, I wish it were film, but I switched to digital. The lens was the 35 mm DX on D300.

Victor,

Sorry, I saw 35mm ISO 200 and instantly thought film as I still shoot it along with digital. lol

Apart from the cost, there is much to miss about film!

It's a very nice shot Victor... and for what it's worth..Winter is a great time to be out with the camera... great dramatic light, nice contrast, and on cloudy days you get some really beautiful saturated colors.

In the shot posted here I'd crop out a bit of the hot sky... I really like the long shadows caused by the lower position of the sun and the mood here.
