"Winter on Utah Lake"

The first heavy snowfall of the season blew into the region Friday and Saturday and changed the landscape around Orem dramatically. I drove around the area Saturday afternoon and spotted this scene along Utah Lake. The color of the plants in the Lake near shore provided a nice contrast with the white and blue of the snow covered, clouded mountains on the west side of the Lake.
Shot with my Nikon D800E and Nikon 24-120 f4. iso 100, 1/500 at f 11. Posted in Capture NX 2.

Added a slightly different version using Color Efex Pro 4 detail extractor to push the contrast in the mountains.

That looks cold and bleak!
The grass makes a nice warm contrast to the cold hues around it and it's an evocative image. My only suggestion would be that you probably don't need so much water in the foreground - I'd reduce it by about half.
Cheers,
Scott

Thanks for the comments Scott

I forget that posting here is the final product. I'm so used to framing loose for prints I sell to allow for matts taking an inch out of the shot. Have to remember that's not the case when I post a finished product on the site.

cheers
Peter
