Yep, winter light is pleasant. And you don't have to get up so early.

All three locations are very nice, but I miss some foreground interest in them. I like the simplicity of the third one - a big rock in the foreground, a dead tree, a little boat or some reed would have added some depth to it.

Agreed on all points mate! I would have liked a rock or something for the last one too but the vantage point i had was next to frozen marsh and there was nothing about so i just went with what i had. Got a couple more i'll put up tomorrow anything that helps me learn whats good is much appreciated. P.S. I didn't want to fall in it would be just like me!

Ferd. It's funny and part of the reason why i posted, i did some prints and my Girlfriend took them to work. Most people me included like no2! The pic posted is a bit of a crop so the foreground is a bit much i guess. It also gave me the most trouble technically as the shadows you can see on the right are so long. I had to clone the shadow of the tripod and Camera out! I still don't know how to feel about doing this something from Digital that i just have to get used to i guess. I'm very much an as is type of guy and don't like to "muck about" with things too much. I'll spot off dust but not clone out a tripod MAD! The rest all like no1 because it shows Skiddaw and Blencathra in one shot! Almost no one liked no3 which is to me anyway the more classic, almost cliche like composition of the three and the one most likely to appeal to non photographers but it does have something. That big expanse of nothing in the foreground just needs "Welcome to the English lakes" or something written all over it

I thought very hard why not a pano and moving the horizon a bit, glad you made the effort Marcel.

Well a good winter here and you never know do you! Only thing is that most of my potential customers will have seen them all already!
Funny thing is i did a Pano and didn't post it because i thought everyone was getting tired of them! It does look nice that way though.
Cheers Jules.

'Lo Jules!

Just a quick word to say I like your two series a lot. Of the first three, #2 and 3 are my favourite, although #1 has something that speaks for itself too, with this enticing composition that take us right to the lake along the gorge/vale. But when I first saw #3, I just went "woaw". And I had something in mind that I found out Marsel had too and he did it before me...

Of the second series, I guess I can't decide on a favorite. They're all different, with their own character. But #2, with the human elements and the stillness of the water, is cooooooooool! And the pano... makes me want to grab my snowshoes and GO!

Thanks for sharing!

Just a remark about #2, second series: isn't is slightly tilted CCW ? I don't have the software here, but I'd try a .1 degree CW rotation, just to be sure...

It may be out of wack i guess, i haven't straightened any of em! Just used my bubble level thingy in the hotshoe, it does look slightly out of kilter doesn't it. Thats the great thing about critique though i had never thought to look! Imagine if it had ended up in a book or something and then you were told it was squint you'd never feel the same about it again would you

OTHO the string of the blue "thingy" there is straight... so I'm the one who may be a bit tilted, after all!

Got a plumb bob right in the photo!

Also, the supports for the dock look relatively vertical.
