This was made at one of my favorite wave spots on the coast on Saturday.

Posted some images of surfing from the same session in the sports forum.

Ventura CA.
Nikon D4, AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4G ED VR handheld, 1/1250 s @ F4, ISO Auto, Exp +.7.
Dynamic-area AF, 51 point 3D, rear button AF-on only.

Very nice tube Robert. I am curious how it would look a little darker, but your composition is good regardless.

Backwash!!!! Arrrrrgh! Thanks to backwash I currently have a torn meniscus in my knee from surfing and being hit in a situation very similar to that. Nice shot though Robert.

Beautiful shot Robert

Brings back fond memories of when I was living in Santa Barbara and watching my buddies surf there back in the late 70's. I'm with Tom though.. It looks a little light on my HP screen.. I'd like to see it a bit darker...beautiful color in that water..

Lovely shot. What I'm most impressed with is that you could hand hold the 500mm! If I tried that I'd get a lot of pictures of my toes.

Proper shutter speed and practice

I always use at least 1/125o s and higher for good results.
