We finally got to a place with wifi so I can check out the forums and post an image or two.

This was from our hike in the dunes yesterday.

I like the blue in the sky complementing the colors of the sand. It makes a good contrast. I think the slope of the dune adds to the tension in the image between the earth and sky.

Thanks Eric. We're on our homewanrd leg now, it's been a great time. We'd probably hiked 2 miles in sand at this point and climbed 400' up the dunes at 8200' elevation, so I was glad to sit down and get a low perspective.

I like the composition but the image seemed to be very soft especially towards the dune-horizon. I can not understand why because at F22 the whole image should be fairly sharp and at 1/125 with a VR lens I doubt if there is any camera shake. Am I imagining the soft focus?

Hi Aart,

The softness at the horizon is probably due to blowing sand, it was pretty windy, plus the sun was fairly high in the sky when it was taken so the cotrast wasn't very good which contribtes to an overall softness. In the full sized image to focus looks pretty good front to back.
