"Another Zion Image on the Road to Lava Point"
Mon 05-Dec-11 08:42 PM by jtmcg

Simsbury, US

We drove to Lava Point and noted places along the way that we'd want to stop at on the return trip. This was referred to as the "place with the yellow grass". It had this unusual (at least to me) field of yellow grass with large red stone formations behind it. It also had that structure made from 4 boards whose purpose (if there is one) I have no clue about. To give you an idea of the scale note the fence line on the left just in front of the rock formation.

John:

Nicely done! I admit to being jealous, since I was at that exact spot last month (along with Dan Stainer), but on that day we had a lousy, dull, gray sky.

Keep up the good work,

Les

Thanks Les.

We did have pretty good luck with the weather. That day ran the gamut. In the morning we were at Canyon Overlook near the tunnel and I was comfortable in short sleeves. That afternoon we drove to Lava Point and it was snowing and about 30 degF when we were there. On the way back we encountered snow and rain showers and sun and clouds at various points. The sun was in and out at this location.

Fine work, John. I love the colors and textures in the rock formation and it was nice to have the clouds cooperate.

The clouds were a welcome addition to the scene.

Thanks very much Michael. Actually I did do some tone mapping in HDR Efex Pro even though it's a single shot.

You mean you don't like my Gitzo Caveman?
