"Tell Me What You All Think"

Dundee, GB

Hi folks. I just purchased my first dSLR (Nikon D80) last week after using a Fujicolour F-11 for the last couple of years. This forum has been a tremendous help to me in both choosing the right camera and also using it.

I'm hoping some of you might want to give me some pointers as to how I'm doing in this new medium. I'm pretty weak at editing so any help or advice would be very welcome. Here's a couple (if I manage to link them correctly) that I like but which may or may not be good.

Feel free to comment. Thanks for listening.

These are all nice shots. I especially like the second one, where the tree in the foreground adds depth to the overall scene.

Thanks for having a look. I agree with your comment on that picture and do usually try to get something in the foreground but the others posted here just kinda suited the wide open space look.

Gordon,

Congrats on the D80. I think you will find that as you grow in your digital photography, that you will begin to make images beyond anything you ever saw in your film work.

I think all the shots are good, though the 4th stands out for good composition. The skies in all the shots are fabulous. As you obviously know, cloudes help!

All and all, well done! Looking forward to more posts.

BTW, Photoshop is not that bad and you might want to take a look at Lightroom, the new editor - quite impressive and affordable, really.

There are probably about three common operations you will find yourself doing over and over again. You will, however, need a good editor to really get the most out of your images.

Regards

Nice shots. Is that a rabbit in the second photo? Behind the yellow flowers in the middle of the photo??

Your shots are very good. You can do most of what you need with Lightroom, which is a lot less intimidating than Photoshop.

No excuses about learning Photoshop at 42. I'm 58 and teaching myself about it. Once you play with Curves on your photos and see how easy it can be to boost the contrast, you'll be hooked. If you start with good images that are well exposed--as you clearly do--there isn't that much that's necessary.

Good luck!

Jim

Hi Gordon,

I like the shots. They're nice and peaceful.
It would probably be better if you bring out some more colour in some of your general subjects e.g. the first picture with the flower field.

here's my little quick image to show you what I mean

what do you think?

I love it, but I don't know how to do that yet.

Nice composition. I just played with the color a bit on number 2 and added a little pop. Nice work. Adding contrast can do wonders.

all the best,

This is also excellent. Now I'm embarrassed. I'm looking into going back to college to maybe learn a bit about Photoshop. Just don't know if I have the nerve to go back at 42 y.o.

Gordon,

Thank you. Post processing is fairly easy to learn. Taking great pictures is not. You have provided wonderful pictures, so in reality you are 99% of the way there.

Keep um coming man!
