"Greenback heron"

Bowie, US

Taken about 2 hours ago at Huntley Meadows Park. When I get back later today, I'll try to clean up the picture of him catching the fish he was watching.

Fuji S2, Nikkor 80-400mm VR, handheld (I brought the wrong tripod plate }> ), 1/180, f/11, ISO=800, jpeg fine, wb-sunny. PS work - auto levels & RGB s-curve.\

EDITED TO ADD: ALSO TAMRON 1.4X CONVERTER

Hmmmm. He looks familiar. Nice! That VR works pretty well.

20 minutes after you left, he caught a large frog and was dangling it and waving it around in the air. Awesome spectacle! I took some pics but I'm not sure how much I was able to fill the frame. Guess I'll find out is a week (slides!).

Just for your information there is a Express 1 hour photo digital lab in Crofton that will do your E-6 slides overnight 1 day service and they are very good. I get all my processing done there and I was steered there by a friend of mine who is a pro and they do all his stuff. They are in the strip mall next to the Giant on rt 3 in Crofton 410-721-8575. If you go there tell them I sent you they are very nice people.

Hey Tom, thanks for the info! Even though it will be a bit of a drive, I'll check it out. Lately, I've had to wait 7-10 days for my slides to come back. Drives me crazy, especially shooting with digital Bob!

(Partial) Digital Bob - the egret with the fish was Provia

Sorry I had to leave, but Carol was expecting a trip to Catoctin with the hound. He loved it (our Olga is in Baltimore, and we're puppy sitting a 7 month old male, also in the guide dog program), especially the romp in the creek after climbing the mountain.

He also has a drop box on the outside for after hours which is nice, if you do slides ask him to number them if you want them numbered, his machine does not do it but he will # them by hand.

I just missed the Deer shot of a lifetime a couple of hours ago, went looking for something to shot about 4pm down a small country road, crossed a little wood bridge over a stream 10-15 ft wide I always look when I go over that bridge because I saw a beautiful drake wood duck there last fall, well I looked and there stood a buck deer facing away from me in the middle of stream drinking, 6 point in velvet standing in full sun! could not stop on bridge so went 100 yds and parked slipped back and sure enough there was the deer standing under a bush still in stream did not see me, got the camera on and focused and what! it was a doe! the buck was gone! I did get some shots of her in the shade at the same distance as the buck was about 25yds and I will post them here next week, but I was sick that I missed that shot, he was lit up like he had a spot light on him! Sorry to go on like this but it hurt to miss that one.

Tom, I feel your pain. I have more missed shots of a lifetime for one reason or another than I care to remember.
