The birdlife was very elusive this morning. But I spotted this little guy foraging for ants amongst the Pigface & reeds in a marsh not far from home. All shots taken with the D300s + 70-200mm f/2.8G. FYI. These animals are one of 2 egg laying mammals we have here. The other one being the Platypus. I look forward to being able to post one of those soon......Scotty.
#1. 1/500s @ f/5.6.
#2. 1/500s @ f/4.5.
#3. Check out the ants on the face, & the dirty snout. 1/500s @ f2.8
#4. In full defence position. They can bury themselves in a matter of seconds with those strong claws. 1/500s @ f/3.2.

Thanks Tom. I haven't received a reply as yet. But my guess is that they would be some type of Tick. I would imagine that they would just drop off once they've gorged themselves. Thanks for commenting.....Scotty.

For those that inquired. I am informed that the white things on the Echidnas face are in fact mites. They've gorged themselves & apparently are ready to drop off. Thank you for your interest.....Regards Scotty.
