"Black Crowned Night Heron.....Maybe first year."
Mon 30-Sep-13 08:06 PM by Kipmm

St.Catharines, CA

Caught this little Guy in poorly lit corner with the Sun just striking in.
Sitting on a Log staring at the water looking for the next meal.
I was surprised by the low shutter speed.

Kip.

Hi Dave,
This year I didn't see as many as in the past years spring to summer not to many Adults but a lot of Immature,s ,sort of strange.
Well at least they appear to be breeding well.

Very nice Kip, a little "hot" on the back of its leg, but from experience, I know how hard that is to control on these guys. As per Dave, I don't think I've seen one this summer at all.

Hi Richard ..
Yep the back of the leg was a problem ,the sun was in and out and occasionally a little brutal especially coming off the water below the Bird.

Good looking bird, excellent exposure and really sharp. With the slower shutter speed it enabled you to use a low iso which is a benefit to the quality of the image.

Keep them coming, very good.
