"D800 test. Dickcissel, Blue Grossbeak, Not-edited, or cropped"

Hey Everybody, Nice to see a lot of the folks are still around. Great images are being posted--I really have missed posting and replying.

Finally broke down, giving into temptation and buying a D800. Said goodbye to my D3x a while back.

I shot these this morning. Forget to reset to Raw after shooting some b-day pics on Sunday--these are shot in jpeg at normal quality setting--with the exception of the Killdeer, it was in Raw from the other day.

All are unedited, straight from camera. Didn't bother to crop them or sharpen.

I used a 600 mm with and w/o a 1.7tc from car, balancing from the window. Quite happy with the results.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Pakku. Welcome back to you too. It's very nice to hear from you. The place that you live looks super and with a National Wildlife Park nearby (google and google earth tells me so).

Well, take care,

Tom

Great set, Tom! I'm nearly ready to get a D800 as my patience for the D400 is wearing thin!

Jpegs from the window (tough to balance with no beanbag ) . Well done but the Killdear is my fav.

All the best,
Tom

I very much like the Bunting at the end. I've been thinking of getting an 800 if Nikon doesn't soon announce a 400. Your shots are convincing. Whose 600mm lens were you using?

Smooth as glass. How you dealing with the sudden need of disk space when your RAW files are 45mb each?

"Love the Dickcissel"
Why does that read like something said in a bad porn movie?

That' s funny, Gerard, My wife thought I was kidding about the Dickcissel, when I mentioned them the first time.

My goals with d800 is to shoot fewer images per trip, make better shots, take home only the best, keep only the highest quality ones on the hard drive, use PS sparingly to avoid building large files and maintain better control over what is on the computer.

Great to hear from you,

Tom
