Very nice Rick. I guess you didn't get the memo from Neil R. about not shooting a lens plus TC wide open? But it does beg the question - since you had shutter speed to burn here and a pretty low ISO - why wide open? I'm thinking for the nice OOF effect on the top half of the shots, but could be wrong.

With close subjects stopping down is not going to increase depth of field that much nor is it going to give me a much sharper picture using this lens. This lens handles the 14e extremely well so I shoot it wide open all the time. Now with no TC and shooting groups at a distance I will go to 5.6 or F8 because I can get more depth of field.

I like the way the fading away of focus in #2 takes the eye deeper into the image ---did you get one with the middle bird in focus?
