"Shore bird ID help"

Custer WI, US

I am calling this shorebird a Sanderling. Is this correct?
Photo taken at water's edge at South Beach, Marco Island, Florida this past February.

Thanks in advance.

Bob

Hello Bob,

Yep, you are right!

Scientific name: Calidris alba

The Sanderling is a small wader. It is a circumpolar Arctic breeder,
and is a long-distance migrant, wintering south to South America,
South Europe, Africa, and Australia. It is highly gregarious in winter,
sometimes forming large flocks on coastal mudflats or sandy beaches.

Have a good day…

Kodiak:
Boy that was fast!!
Thanks for your confirmation. I used Peterson's Field Guide to Birds to make the initial ID but wanted to make sure I, in fact, had the right bird.

Regards,
Bob
