Wonderful shot. The clarity is amazing. Just picked up my 7100 today and I hope my bird shots are as nice. Thanks for posting.

Wow! You sure nailed the owl. Now you have given me a new case of NAS. My D7000 may be in danger of being traded for a D7100. (yeah, I know it is the face behind the camera that is more important than the camera.)

A terrific shot, JIm. Really striking eyes on this owl.

I've been reading your posts here and elsewhere about the D7100 and hope you will be posting more bird shots. Trying to decide if a D7100 will work for me when shooting birds in flight. So far, I think it will be more than enough camera for me.

So far, I'm thinking it replaces my D300 as a "tripod camera" and I'll stay with the D300s for birds in flight. But it works better for birds in flight than the D300.

I've always been a little agnostic on higher resolution cameras revealing more detail at web posting sizes CK. But I am seeing more detail.

Question for you Jim - is this shot in regular DX or the 1.3 crop?

Excellent image, Jim! I came across one of these guys yesterday but it was awful light so no pictures. How do you like the feel and layout of the 7100 compared to your D300?

Personally I don't mind the smaller body - I carry enough weight! As to the user interface, I don't find it any harder to get used to than I found the D800 the one time I used one.
