Well, luckily the 300 f2.8 VR focuses very fast, and at 7 fps you don't miss too much. The light was good for this (mostly) top view.

That owl, on that blue sky certainly pops. The contrasts are striking and your rendition of the whites is incredible. This is my favorite snowy picture of the season. You really managed to get close (using the 300mm lens). Congrats on an awesome photo.
