A young Red-tailed Hawk sat himself over some doves & pigeons waiting for an opportunity, however he was not successful in capturing a meal.

First 2 shots full frame, some cloning done to remove distracting twigs, also a bit of Gaussian blur was added to background. 3rd shot is a square crop from a portrait mode shot.
All shots with my usual set up, D300 + Nikkor 600mm VR + 1.4TC

ISO400, f/7.1, 1/1000sec, spot

A favourite bird of mine to photograph, the House Finch. A fairly common bird, not too spectacular in appearance, but I love their feathering and how the camera and lens capture the details in their feathers. Both of these are virtually out of camera with little post processing other than downsizing & sharpening for posting.

Male House Finch, this particular male had very intense red plumage compared to the others: ISO400, f/7.1, 1/250sec, spot
