some pictures from the last few months with the nikon D800 and the nikon 500 and the nikon 200-400, last picture is of a goshawk and a short eared owl it had killed

Jim many thanks for your kind comments sorry for the lateness of the reply since I've been in transit the last few days anyways with the D 800 I've tended to use the Nikon 1.4 and image quality is excellent I did try the Nikon 2 X converter and it really was not useful with the 500 but haven't had a good chance to try it with a lot of sun since that's a luxury we don't have in abundance (we still have 3-4 feet of snow and -10 temps) and haven't tried it all with the 200-400 but the 2 X converter has been the converter of choice with the 70 to 200 especially when traveling and has been the perfect travel combination

Pakku many thanks for your comments, here in British Columbia again this year we had an influx of snowy owls due to the overabundance of lemmings in the Arctic and the resultant overabundance of immature snowy owls who have come south looking for food ,most areas in the province have had 6 to 10 in many areas and Vancouver has had over 20 roosting on dumpsters and buildings along the ocean, unfortunately there have been many that have been dying from starvation since they have to adapt to hunting in a completely different environment and as well there is much competition from other raptors, in our little town in northern British Columbia we've had four that have starved to death in spite of help from the local wildlife shelter nevertheless some have done well and that one in the photograph actually seems to be smiling after what looks like a very good meal, from his perspective of course
