Not often when a bird is grooming you can see what the issue is. But in this case you can see the speck of red bark in her right eye. D300 w/ 500 f4 AF-S & TC-14E, f8 ISO 250

Once again nice lighting Jim, hopefully it managed to blink out the piece of bark and didn't have to use one its talons as shown in the second shot to remove it! Good biew of its beak as well in these.
