"Wisconsin River Eagles . . ."
Sat 02-Feb-13 01:29 PM by cockers

Plover, US

Took a day off from work yesterday to recharge my batteries. Headed up north to the cabin to plow out driveway and check on things.
On the way home I decided to stop by the DuBay dam on the Wisconsin River to check on the Eagles. It was -5 degrees but there were 9 near the dam and 7 more just downriver - it was great to see so many birds there. . . Of course I didn't have my 500 with me so I made do with 300 f4 (old version with 1.4 Kenko).
These are fairly heavy crops as I could have used more reach.

Thanks for looking.

Al

Nikon D300s, ISO 1250, Aperture Priority, +.7 EV , 1/4000 sec., Nikkor 300 f4 ED with Kenko 1.4, handheld.

Very nice series Al

I've started finding more Bald Eagles out here this winter...but mostly resting in trees. Hope to eventually get some nice flight shots like these.

Great shots, forums make us newbies find clues to examine shots for, such as fine detail of the birds feathers. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Emory - in the case of these shots I could have used more focal length as I had to do a pretty deep crop (did't have my long lens with me). The detail isn't as crisp as I like but I was happy with the captures.

Great job Al. Getting close with 300mm even with a TC is tough. #2 is really nice. They tough to get while they are flying at you, looks like you nailed the focus on this one.
