"Can you help me Identify these birds?"

Monroe, US

I was in Sanibel Island at JN Darling National wild Refuge and at a friends house in Celebration Florida. I am bad at naming the birds but getting the hang of it. I cant tell the difference of some of the Herons and have some I am not sure about. Hope someone can help.

I have a few more and will have to post again later. The ponds around my friends house in Celebration had so many birds I spent 3 hours taking pictures. Thanks for your help.

Loved Sanibel when I lived down that way.

3. Is a juvenile little blue heron
4, 5, and 6 are all tricolored herons in breeding plumage

The rest are all as Phil has them.

Hi Francine,

Nice work. I agree with Phil except for #5 and 6 which are Tricolored Herons as well.

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks so much. It was fantastic. They all sat and watched me watch them as I shot tons of pictures. I wanted to get a picture of the spoonbill but they were to far away. I have to say there were so many Osprey I could not believe it. I was hoping to get one of those up North and couldn't get a close one. in FL they were all over.

Francine-Sorry I missed the ID of #5 and #6. Vaughn is right-tricolored herons. For a snowbird like me, seeing the birds in Florida (in March) is a real treat. Glad to hear you're having lots of luck with them and hope to see more of your work.

Marvellously done Francine, see all your birds have been correctly identified. Isn't Sanibel Island a great spot? My wife & I spent a week there in December 2011; most mornings I was out at Ding Darling NWR being eaten alive by the no-see-ums, but I'd go back in a heart beat and see the variety of birds in the area.

I believe #7 is immature Yellow-crowned Night-heron. Thick dark bill and long legs.

My sister lives about 30 min from there and I plan on going back in Feb one more time. She is moving to NC in March. I loved going there and yes the bugs were realy bad. I used bug sprey and it didnt help too much.
