excellent set of images Rick, so sweet the variety of hawks and the falcon, i'd be happy just to get one of them, love the crossbill also, i have never seen one of these before or even seen one posted, then last weekend i was out doing some hiking and ran into some of them, now i see them popping up on a few forums

Visit my Nikonians gallery.

Thanks Brian. We do get a pretty good variety of hawks here in the fall and winter months. As for the crossbills, they are very sporadic year to year. Someone mentioned to me that this is the greatest number of White-winged there has been in 5 years. Most years we don't see any of either species but this year they are on the move searching for food.

Thanks Richard. Of all the Crossbill images I've taken recently, I have to say that that one of the juvenile is one of my favorites because of the coloration in it. The Peregrine also pleased me to no end with his great cooperation(it didn't even fly off, just flapped its wings a few times and then sat back down).

Outstanding series Rick! Although I am usually a raptor kind of guy, I really like how you handled the crossbill. The raptors are great as well.

Good shootin'

So, how are you setting up to shoot?
Shutter priority? Aperture priority? Manual? ISO preset or auto ISO?

Lovely shots! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks,Edwin. I always shoot in manual and most often at ISO 400. Rarely do I shoot over ISO 400 but do go lower under certain conditions(great light and a cooperative subject).
