"A siege of herons"

Ottawa, CA

On Monday I posted a series of pictures of various Herons on my website. The Herons were all taken this spring and summer. I welcome comments, specifically as I am very new to bird photography.

Very nice shot, more especially as you're new to bird photography . Great images on you're website too. I often use the 70-200mm and TC 17IIe combination when shooting wildlife. Can you tell me approximately how close would you say you were to the Heron please?

Thanks. You have a great website.

This is full frame at 340mm. If I recall it was less than 30 feet out (9 meters).

It is hard to tell one bird from another, but the other static Black Crowned Heron on my website maybe the same one as it too posed for its photo. Normally i resort to cropping, which I would rather not do.

Obviously and from what I observe from you as a Canadian and US photographers too, the Heron's in your part of the world tolerate humans closer than in the UK

They still get spooked by loud noises and sudden movement. I am amazed when one cardinal stays to stare and another flies off when I am a hundred feet away.
