"Barn Swallows are beautiful birds"

Sometimes you get to see a bird or some other animal which is just beautiful in its own right, and you're lucky enough to capture its image. Such is the case of the Barn Swallow, in my opinion. They are beautiful and graceful birds, with great coloring. I photographed this one at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge.

I was able to capture this image with a D700 + Nikkor AF-S 500mm f/4G ED VR + Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter at f/5.6, 1/400sec, ISO 1250.

Whether or not it's a great technical photo doesn't dimminish this species' beauty. I hope you enjoy the photograph.

I agree with you regarding the bird as they are delicate, graceful, and pretty. I have yet to get one sitting and trying to capture one flying is difficult at best. Very good shot.

Thanks David and John. Most of the time, like many wildlife photographers, I like to get sharper detail in a bird to show it off, but it didn't seem appropriate to me for this shot, so I pulled back on the sharpening, and got a different look, which fit better to me. I appreciated your comments.

I think your detail sharpness is exactly right, as is everything else in this photo!

Great job finding one on a perch long enough for a photo!
