"yup, another SB800 question..."

Glasgow, GB

Hi,

I have read approx 3 million articles on which speedlight to get, only to confirm what I already expected; it's gotta be the SB800. So my question is...where can I get one shipped from America? The lowest price I can get in the UK is £329.99 (approx $600!!!) and I just refuse to pay that kind of money when I see that you can get one in America for $300. I know shipping will bump the price up a bit but its got to be worth it.

Please help...

F

You can get a new one for 399 Euro incl. VAT in Germany (technikdirekt.de). That's about 280 GBP. I bought mine the USA for 429 USD + tax, which equals more or less the price you have in Germany, B&H are though cheaper. US items are not covered by the Nikon Warranty in Europe.

I do not know where you get your £329 from.
The most common UK price is £279.

***

If you import one from the USA you will pay a credit card surcharge around 2.5% for paying in $.
UK customs and Excise are likely to bill you for VAT and import duty plus a service charge, usually not less than £25 as it costs more than the tax free import limit.
The bill comes with the post delivery - no payment - no parcel handed over.

When it comes it will not meet EEC electric regulations so European power packs will not fit, and Nikon UK will not do any warranty repair for free.

Around $350 including shipping and handling becomes around $500 after taxes and handling - near enough the UK warranty product price of £279.

The UK item is either in store or delivered next day.

At $300 are you sure the filters and stand are included?

Photography is a bit like archery. A technically better camera, lens or arrow may not hit the target as often as it could if the photographer or archer does not practice enough.

Len the price is US is about $320 at reputable stores with $25 rebate and it includes all that stuff.

depending on the state, there is a sales tax of up to 10% which may apply but not if is shipped out of state. Oregon does not have a sales tax.

Some stores sell gray market which may be Eu units with European warrantees. B&H states which they will sell you.
