I have a D7000 / SB900 combination. I want to use the SB900 as remote but adjust the power. Can it be done? I set the D7000 popup flash to CMD, camera in M, SB900 in Remote & it flashes at full power regardless so have to shoot at small f stop or high shutter. Would rather 'adjudt' the SB.

In the Commander you can set the mode of the remote flash. There's TTL, M, and AA for the SB900. If you set the flash to "M" then you can adjust the power. Page 225 of the English D7000 manual has the information you need.
Check your flash to make sure that it is NOT in SU-4 mode. Review the manual carefully to make sure you're in wireless CLS mode.

See Fast Track to Wireless Speedlights. Page 4 Setting the SB-900 as a Remote Unit, page 7 for camera setup. You can set the remote flash mode to "TTL" or "M" at the camera
Note the SU-4 mode is just an optical trigger for manual flash control or TTL (Speedlight on and off controlled by the camera's flash being on or off) and the power level is set on the remote Speedlight.

Thanks everyone - i never thought of looking on the camera to adjust the power of remote flash. Also that link from gkaiseril for Fast Track to Wireless Speedlights. Excellent but I will need to try & find it on the NIkonians, there must be much more. T
