The SU-800 replaces the pop up flash, so you no longer use the menu on your camera to control it. Basically the SU-800 takes over control of the flashes. The camera still exchanges exposure data with the SU-800, such as ISO, aperture, shutter speed and any exposure compensation. You can change modes on the remote flashe(s), and dial in EV values with the SU-800, as well as control groups of flashes independent of one another. You can even turn off a flash or group of flashes remotely. Really a neat tool.
