"Profoto AirSync"

NL

Hello,

Couldn't find much about them but does anybody use this radio trigger system? They look like a good alternative to the pocketwizards so I was wondering if someone uses them not only for profoto equipment but for speedlights as well.

Hi,

this question is an oldie but let's write an answer anyway. Profoto's remote system is incompatible with pocketwizard. It is also incompatible with the Sekonic remote flash module, so don't waste your money on the module (the meter is OK).

Best regards,
Kari

Hi Kari,

Wow, this is a 3 1/2 year old thread!
That said, excellent points.
I have always used my Pocket Wizards with Profoto Air equiped strobes for just that reason.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

Hi Marty,

I don't quite follow your last statement: "I have always used my Pocket Wizards with Profoto Air equiped strobes for just that reason.". Do you mix them somehow or did I accidentally give false information?

I remembered reading from somewhere that the radio frequencies are different. I measure the lighting with the Sekonic 358 (without the remote module) by first selecting the flash metering mode and then hitting the Air Remote flash button (within a minute). Works well for me. In other words, it is not necessary to sync the meter and the flashes to get a reading.

Best regards,
Kari

Hi Kari,

I don't use the built in Profoto Air Triggers, I use Pocket Wizards wired to the sync port of the Profoto D1 1000/500/250 Air to trigger them.
Keep in mind that some Profoto packs can be fitted with Pocket Wizard modules (D4R, ProB2, AcuteB2) and can be triggered by Pocket Wizard Trancevers using any one of the 32 PW channels.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

Hi Marty,

thanks for explaining. I guessed this yesterday evening while watching the 'Essential Studio Lighting' video which I downloaded earlier. The presenter uses Profoto equipment extensively, including D1 Airs, Acutes and D4s. He uses both Air Remote and PocketWizards and had PocketWizards hanging also from some D1s.

Best regards,
Kari
