"Can Standby mode be shut off on the SB-28?"

Hello, I bought my sb-28 used but did not get a manual with it and was wondering if the automatic stby mode be shut off? Just incase you are wondering why I want to do this is that I've been using it off camera plugged into a sc-19 and sc-17 WITHOUT a slave in manual mode. It works fine just that when it goes into standby mode (after 80 sec.) it will not receive the pulse to turn it back on until you fire a shot off. So you have a waisted shot everytime you turn it back on.

Just pressing the shutter release, as if to turn the meter back on, won't turn the flash back on? It works that way with my SB22s and SB24.---scott

Yes there is a way, but I don't have my manual right in front of me. If I remember correctly, there should be a quick instruction printed on the back of the bounce card that slides out of the flash. If there isn't enought info there and nobody else gets the answer out to you, I'll look when I get home tonight.

Joseph,

Thanks for the information, I never even thought of looking at the card. It works okay just got to hold the mode and on/off button at the same time. Scott, If you have a sb-28 connected to a sc-19 which is on the end of a sc-17 (without) a slave it will fire okay in manual mode when on but will not get the pulse to turn itself on from standby. I have confermed this plus read it in a Moose Peterson article on ttl flash.
