"D100 with 45CL-4"

Bucharest, RO

I just bought a Metz 45CL-4 and was preparing to buy the AS-15 Sync Terminal Adapter (Hot Shoe to PC). I saw something at the specifications that sounded like "Note: This does not provide high-voltage sync protection, and is not recommended for flash units that have more than 6v." On some other forum I saw that the 45 CL4 has a sync trigger voltage of 14-16 volts. Now I don't want to fry the D100's flash circuits and surely don't want to sell the flash (it looks and feels great) - so please tell me if there is a way to use this superb flash on my D100.

(someone talked on that forum about "a Wein Safe-Sync" - never heard of it before)

I think that if you call Nikon they will tell you the camera is safe up to 250 volts.

Instead of using the AS-15 you can get the SCA-3000C cord and the SCA3402 adapter. They are more expensive but is safe for sure. They also provide flash ready signal, automatic sync speed setting and correct exposure indication in the viewfinder. They won't provide any TTL exposure control however. If you then use the setup with a Nikon film camera you would have TTL.

Thank you very much. I saw today on some other forum the same problem as mine. And someone told the guy that he should "get the SCA3402 + SCA 3000C sensor and lead". Is this lead contained in the 300C or there's a third part I should think buying? Oh, and some other thing - suppose I'll work on a D200, D2H (cameras with PC conection) will I have to buy all those SCAs or I'll just plug the cable in the PC conection and no further problems?

The combination will work with the D70 and D70s but not the D2X or D2H. Metz said that they are working on the SCA module that support these camera. Basically, the SCA-3000c cable adapts the SCA-300 flash to accept SCA-3000 module.
