"Coolpix A optical viewfinder...a tad expensive."

I just started reading the announcement about the new Coolpix A. One of the optional accessories is an optical viewfinder. The cost? A whopping $450.00! That's huge when you consider that the camera itself is "only" $1,100.00. OVFs for MFT cameras run around $200 or less.

And somehow Nikon couldn't find themselves the opportunity to put the same on-chip Phase Detect AF that's in the 1 Series. The Coolpix A is a lost opportunity - but for fear of cannibalizing their "true" Mirrorless system, they denied what should be the flagship Coolpix line the proper technology to remain competitive. At the price they want for an OVF, and what you get from the body itself, there are better alternatives.

I agree and I think Nikon has given Canon another advantage with their Power Shot G1X which has an OVF and only costs $599.00 (after rebate).

I bought my Nikon optical viewfinder from www.Berger-bros.com for US$379.00. Not quite as expensive as expected. It is a cool little attachment and works pretty well for grab shots and landscapes on my COOLPIX A.
