"How do you guys like the P520 ?"

US

I'm looking to buy this and I just sold my P7000

I'm replacing P7000 with P520 even though I believe the P7000 will give better image quality.

I'll be using it in conjunction with my Nikon 8400 ...set to super wide with converter.

Funny - FINALLY an OK replacement for 8400...except I'm using the 8400 as super wide.(17mm @ 35mm/FX convertion)And the P520 starts at eqv = 24mm(-1000mm)

Jumbo swivel !

Oh - and I'll use it at 8MP to match my 8400.

I had my P7000 grouped with my 8400 ...till this great day.

I know P520 can't match P7000,purple+CA
but
it's good enough.

I'm most inclined to use in slideshows/with music,and reduce for email/Nikonian etc.

Going to buy REAL soon.

But ; do feel free to express your opinion.

Happy day to all. Larry

If you are wanting to buy a P520 (new),don't pay over $420.00 and you get a 16GB class 10 card and a travel charger and an extra battery.

So do - check,check,check.

From hands on at Best Buy ...very large swivel ...should be used with care...and it is full swivel.

I read focus could be slow,tele focus hunting.

But this camera, as the Canon SX40/50HS and the Nikon P520 are both maybe about equal.My bet is on the Canon...but,if she wants to post on Nikonian...the P520 will be much better.

For about $300.00 you can get the older,very compitant 40,possably with other goodies...extra battery,nice card....

But,for father/daughter bonding ; I say the P520.

Oh - out at 1000mm has more CA than I'd like,and I read much purple frindging.

Also note;for me -the P520 is better...for panos and secondary 8mp;

BUT KNOW THE P510 IS ABOUT THE SAME FOR ALL THAT'S IMPORTANT.;@ about $100.00 less!NEW!I don't remember if the P510 HAS the full side swivel.

I now have a P520 on the way,has extra battery and 16gb class 10 card.and I also ordered an additional battery...all for about $420.00

It will be paired with my 8400/wide glass unit.

I will post shots here.I'm looking forward to it...being it's Nikon-I can post most anywhere here on Nikonian,and that it starts at 24mm,and that it has a JUMBO swivel screen.

Oh,not at NO cost ; Sold ; P7000,Panasonic LX3,two camera bags,a $20.00 refund check,and my kayak;Pelican Pursuit 120 -one season old(I have another kayak)
that pays for most of it.

Ironic - when the P7000 will give better quality and fit system into smaller bag.

But, hopefully - it will bring satisfaction (Shots).

Sorry - my camera should be in Tues.-Fri. ,because it's coming "standard shipping"

Checking reviews - slightly discouraging ; "images slightly soft",along with CA and purple frindging...

But,I'm still excited...

*When I held this camera,and tried it out...in Best Buy ...I was like ;GOTTA buy this camera...it's so me and kind-of a follow up to the great Nikon 8400...!

So ... I'm waiting and excited.

Tues.9:50AM ...ooo...ooo...! the camera came FedEx 5 minutes ago...

SHOTS !!!! .

Conclusion ; I think this camera got a bad wrap...yet...I had some at the lake 'I thought was in focus'.

First two are super tele at home,third one tele at the lake(horses),

Then 4 nice ones from the lake ,

then how bad the camera can do...when you think the camera is doing great.
Gotta look close...I had glair...

2nd conclusion ; I am happy with the camera - do gotta use care...

Happy day,very happy day ,...Larry
Oh - it reminds me of the Canon SX 30 is ; camera can easily do good or bad,but p520 err's on the side of good-I'd say
(I had the Canon SX30IS,replaced it with the Canon SX40HS...better better)

Hi Miguel - think ya'll be happy with it.It kinda has it's quirks,and some hip-cups...
but,overall ;good.This camera is doing/trying to do ALOT.

I use mine on auto ISO,use the swivel screen...with my glasses...
CONFIRM WITH YOUR EYES THAT IT IS REALLY IN FOCUS-can easily lock focus while NOT in focus.Great camera-just be alerted.

Ya know - I do like this camera,I do see the little bit of softness of images ...they talk about-in reviews.

My advice is - use and enjoy this camera - don't worry about reviews...proof is n the images...

I would not say it's the best camera(in the world)-but it's sure good...
especially if you use the camera in a way it likes.(co-opporate with it...use it's good points->into the images).

I do 'see' that little 'softness' in the first and last shot here;
(and the first and last one -I did sharpen slightly)

Last good one from the lake.

I say camera is worth like $350.00 at best-but being newly 'out'...

Also being I got the extras package 2 extra batteries,a 16GB class 10 card,an external charger....
so;
it's 'as if' I got it for $350.00

No-matter I wanted it....it's so "me".

Oh- and welcome to Nikonian Miguel

I was photographing in the yard...got a little tired...sat down;

and shot from the chair!Nice project.

;first pic is from the chair @ widest.Also did a pano,shot the prickly plant,water bottle,
and bamboo(second shot here)to the right ,juat out of first picture frame.

It's a fun/challenge project,esspecially with a camera of this zoom range.

Oh,I saw the P510 in Costco today,I PERFER THE FULL SWIVEL FROM THE LEFT(without that-I NEVER WOULD HAVE PURCHASED. (.)
Oh-and I love these pano modes,and that I can shoot at 8MP-being I'm pairing this P520 with my 8400wWide Nikon glass converter(older high quality 8MP camera)

I guess I'd recommend buying this camera(P520)-but only if you find a way to purchase at $350.00 or less.

Happy day / Larry (I included the pano shot I also took from the chair,third shot)And with the panos - you can go any of 4 directions,2 horizontal,2 vertical.

Thanks...

Got to shoot somemore - some irises that have popped up in the yard.

The first one,during my iris shoot.I used a foamcore board...that I use to reflect light to my cameras I sell on ebay...I just isolated the iris with this 2 x 3 foot board-as a background.

I did enjoy this shoot - and chose to post the very best...

Still getting used to the camera.

It's Saturday-we went out early yardsaling...
got lucky;

got this lens for $10.00,it does have some tiny bits of dirt inside.

So I photographed it... with this p520,still got to 'MAKE SURE OF IN FOCUS'more than I would like.

Very happy day / Larry

Did a fun self portrait shot(x creative)w/P520

I'm conflicted as to whether I recommend this camera to fellow Nikonians.
If you have one great-work with it to good results...but,like Canon;

!-;it would be nice if ya didn't have to work on the camera doing well;and just to focus on the photography.

And to be fair - ANY camera of this mm range ... is a challenge to quality.

I deffinitly say Canon SX50HS over the Nikon P520,but 520 is still acceptable.

Enjoy all your cameras...and don't forget...really,it's a little more about the photos/images you produce...

Happy day/Larry

Jim - big findings on another lake trip.
Honestly - I would say get her a P7000,or similar.

! ; FUZZY FROSTED WHITE,LACKING IN THE MORE PERCICE DETAIL.

I should have kept the P7000,but - I have this,I wanted it,it has 'range'...with great compromise in quality.

I shot about 100 shots(at the lake) with this P520...
and about 50 shots with my Nikon Coolpix 8400 AND THAT'S WITH THE NIKON CONVERTER...;

WOW -what a difference!The first 100 couldn't compare with the last 50;it was easy to see.
and anything beyond say 90mm,(if lens is 24mm-1000mm)POOR AT BEST.

Now Know - I'm critical here...but if you see the compairason...VERY oveious.

Also know - I will 'fix-THE BEST P520 SHOTS'.

OK - if my 8400 = 100% image quality,;the p520 is 50% at best.

Can't say why a lot of shots were 'poor'.

I was very excited to get this 'news' to you guys...I didn't convert the shots yet...I'll add to this post later if OK.

Add #1 Thank goodness this pair of cameras is my secondary outfit.
(My primary is ; Panasonic GH1w7-14,and my Canon SX 40 HS.

I know we don't need a million pics...and do know...I do non-pro slideshows with music...

Actually - I am kind of imbarrassed at just how bad I did at the lake with the p520.

So know - I post only the best shots,reworked(PP).

So yes,fuzzy/frosted-white,and ANY zoom in is disaster.; is especially what I see ....compare to my Nikon 8400(old 8MP)

But- these shots will go into my Emigrant Lake (redo) show.
I'm going to fully redo my EL show to the max !

-this camera requires extra/more care to get satisfying results.
Some of my lake shots were a disaster/dead.

Larry (And I will soon do a 8400/Lake post...to compare these shots to).Happy day !

You don't need the best camera in the world to photograph at the lake of your dreams...
,but...if I put in 100% effort/work,it's nice to get better than 65%
results.
Bottom line = am I sabatouging myself...? I LOVE the 'range'-as a framing camera for me - but...at this quality I may sell/trade it for better IQ NIKON camera.
I just love this camera - I wish it had better IQ.

As you see ...from this last group of shots...I REALLY TRIED HARD -TO DO AS WELL AS I COULD ....-> to semi-soft/uncrisp shots.

I just feel - I'm working the best I can ...held back by the camera(I morn shots 3 and 4 - in this last group of shots,esspecially #4)

I put in HH 90% and got back 65% results.

I just loved this camera - so - I stand corrected...I have to 'let it go'.

Though I want the range of mm's ...;

I went back to ...when last I did quality...with my secondary set up.
The Canon S5IS ;I see was the start of compromise / though it's an awesome camera.
So I take another step back...and the camera that was teamed with my Nikon 8400wNikon wide glass was my Canon A640.

Now I have options ; an awesome cond. Canon A640,a Nikon P7700,a Canon G1 x,Canon SX50HS - questionable on tack quality...and a canon G12 or G11.
A640 equaled all I sure needed at the time...sensor and MP's extreamly similar on A640 and G11/12.

I have a Canon G11 with 2 batteries on the way (excellent) /cost $200.00

All others were higher...sold P520 with about 200 shots for $150.00 LOSS.
And I was happy to sell it!Gave someone a good buy.-for an OK camera.

Don't forget - I'm REAL critical ... on what I use...it has to carry it's own weight.

Larry
And mind you - I have 2 P+S's with large swivels...but canon G11 and all these others - I count as 'more' than P+S.
I am disappointed in that the P520 didn't have better IQ,so as to KEEP it.If it was as good as my Canon SX40HS ...or even my past Canon A640 ... I morn my P520 beautiful camera for me...side large full swivel....and zoom range....it's a loss.
