"Help Dark Images"

I need some help. I am super new to the world of dslr and slr in general.
I have had the d50 for about a week now and it has been taking great pictures. Until tonight. It seems that every picture I take (same exact things I shot last night, same settings) are coming out dark even in auto mode and the flash is firing. I reset all the menus and it is still doing the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am tempted to return the camera to the store I bought it tomorrow it is only a week old.

I am sorry for being a little vague in my first post. I also posted this in another site but I will repeat it here

What seems to be happening is when I shoot anything in any mode with the built in flash set to TTL the pictures come out very dark. When I set the flash to manual and full they look ok. This happens in auto mode also.

Here are some examples shot in auto with the same room lighting. The good one is from 2 nights ago the last one was from last night. I also reset all the menus a few times.
Oh and please excuse the photos I am new at this and they are pretty bad

Thanks
Matt

It's unfair to judge that image for darkness from left to right, because the left side(the wall) is further away from the camera than the wall on the right side of the tree.

Just an update.

I went to the Camera Store where I purchased the camera and they checked it out and also noticed that it was underexposing when using TTL . So they exchanged my d50 for a new one. They said they have not seen the d50 come back for anything really and this was the first time they saw this problem. Hopefully it was just a bad camera

Thanks
Matt

Well if you had not said in the first place I would say the brighter of the two is what I would expect, and the really dark one looks like the flash just did not fire.
