"Sigma 50-500 Bigma and Kenko Pro300 1.4X Problem ?"

Letchworth, GB

I've just purchased a Kenko Pro300 1.4X teleconverter, I am using it with my D50 and Sigma 50-500 Bigma.

I notice that it can still AF (with some hunting), but the metering seems very unstable. For example, when I focus on something, the metering keeps jumping e.g. between 1/200 and 1/60. Some picture come out ok depending which shutter speed is used when the shot is taken. Some shots are over exposed?
I was wondering if anyone has similar problem? Or know of a workaround.

By the way the Kenko Pro300 1.4X works fine on my Nikkor 300mm F4 AFS.

Nick I have read that some of Sigma's HSM lens are only compatable 100% with their EX teleconverters. I can not find the article I read this but try emailing Sigma and Kenko and see what shakes out. Good luck Jim

I will use film until the last roll and last lab are gone. Go Navy

I tried the 50-500 + Kelko again yesterday, it was only useable in manual focus mode, the light was quite good but the shutter speed was still fluctuating. I probably will not use this combination again unless I particular want to get close to something far away which is unlikely as I am mainly going to shoot Motorcycle Racing.

By the way the Kelko + Nikkor 300mm AF-S F4 worked great.

Cheers
