Hello. I was using my long-serving D50 to take some pictures of industrial equipment this morning and suddenly the pictures themselves started looking like histograms - just very abstract shots of colors. I'm talking about the actual pictures - as downloaded onto my pc - not the histogram view function on the image viewer. I tried different lenses, reset the camera to factory settings, formatted the memory card AND tried a new memory card, all without success. Same psychedelic groovy images! Does anyone have any ideas for troubleshooting this? I've been googling for an hour and am at complete loss. Thank you for your help.
I posted one of the screwy pictures in my gallery.
Welcome to Nikonians! You already did a good job troubleshooting the problem and eliminated the usual causes. Have you tried using a paper clip or needle to reset the camera using the reset switch on the bottom of the camera body (the little hole in the bottom plate on the left side of the camera). If that doesn't solve the problem, you will have to send the camera in for repair or replace it.
The pictures are screwy on the LCD and on the pc. I attached the camera to the pc to download the pictures. The first picture I shot today was fine, and then the abstractions started - very weird. The camera was on a tripod so it wasn't dropped or suffered any other injury. It just went wonky in mid-shoot. Thank you for your help.
