Hi,

I recently bought a 35mm AF-S Prime lens for my D40, as I wanted something less bulky than the kit lens.

The AF works fine, it quickly focusses on the subject when the shutter button is depressed half way.

The issue I am having is that when I depress the shutter button completely there is a noticeable delay (0.5 seconds to 1 second) before the shutter snaps. This is regardless of the speed. I have set the Mode to 'A'.

I feel the the kit lens 'responded' instantly...

has anyone experienced this? Its like the camera is a bit 'lethargic' ..

My main camera is a D200 ... and no issues with that ... maybe I'm imagining this?

I am wondering if the lens AF-S mechaism is at fault - I bought it 2nd hand on ebay...

Hi Khalid,

Is the built in Speedlight firing when you have the delay?
If yes, turn off red- eye reduction mode.
In Red -eye reduction mode, the flash fires and delays the shutter to dialate the subjects pupils causing the problem.

Another thing to check is the mirror-up-delay setting, if the D40 supports that.
