"Moisture problem on Nikon D40X"

Mumbai, IN

Hello Nikonians
I am using Nikon D40X for past four years. Lately it has started showing a moisture problem. During rainy season, the camera simply does not switch on. Keeping the camera under 60 watt illumination also does not help. The service center fellow says the circuit has got the moisture. Servicing turns the camera on. But it is not affordable to service the camera repeatedly. Please let me know what can be done to avoid this situation.

Hi Vihang,

Welcome to Nikonians!
Sorry to hear of your problem.
Is the problem a result of the high humidity, condensation, direct contact with the rain, or a combination of two or more of the above?
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

Hello
Thanks for the reply. The problem is probably due to high humidity in the atmosphere. It happened to be inside the camera bag for a long time. the same problem had occurred last year during monsoon season. Please tell me if you can suggest any preventive measure for this.

Thanks
Vihang

Hi Vihang,

I would recommend keeping your camera sealed in a ziplock with a few containers of silica descecant to absorb any water vapor in the bag.
The more you use the camera, the more often you will have to re-charge the silica descecant by drying it out in the oven.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

Use the lowest possible setting or preheat the oven to the lowest setting, turnoff the oven, and then place the camera in the oven.

If you have an enclosed cabinet, you might place a 40 watt - 60 watt incandescent light bulb in it and put your camera in there and leave the light bulb on. It will act as a warming cabinet an dry out the camera.
