If anyone gets the "r07" error message in the top right hand window of the DSLR-50, it is a prob with the contacts.
Here's how I fixed it. I took the lens off (very carefully!) and put another lens on it. I did this 3 or 4 times but the error msge was still there.
Eventually, I put the camera under a really bright light and took the last lens off. By chance, I noticed a tiny, tiny hair on the silver contact point where the lens was supposed to lock in. It was the size of an eyelash.
I removed the hair and bingo! Everything worked, no more error msge. I hope this piece of advice helps someone

The r07 is not an error message as such but an indicator, its indicating that 7 pictures at current camera settings will fit in the internal camera buffer.
The problem can sometimes be resolved by changing memory card, or formating it as the camera cant transfer from the internal buffer to memory card fast enough.

Hi Charley,
Welcome to Nikonians! I think you are confusing "F_ _" error with "r07". "r07" is not an error message. It indicates that the buffer can hold 7 images before it is full. "F_ _" is an error message indicating that the camera has lost communication with the lens. Cleaning the electrical contacts on the camera and lens usually all it takes to fix the problem. Thanks for sharing. Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

As the others said and for the umpteenth time on here r07 is not an error message it tells you how many shots you can fit in the memory buffer before the camera needs to write some images to the card. IN this case 7.

The control panel displays information messages as well as error messages. The information items displayed changes with various camera settings and actions.
Please look at item 8 on page 4 (the Control Panel) of your camera's user manual. Then read the boxed text "Memory Buffer" on the bottom of page 22. Note the information displayed changes when the shutter release button is depressed half way or fully pressed.
You can always hide this display item by setting the shooting mode to Single Frame. Note the shutter release needs to be depressed to see this item.
