Hi, I just bought my son the nikon 18-200 vr lens. I'm thinking about getting him a teleconverter now, only because he thinks he needs one. (smile). Anyway, saw this on ebay, bower high definition pro mc af digital teleconverter 2.0x. It looks like it screws on to the front of the lens, not between the lens and camera like I thought they all did. Is this something new, and is it worth 50 bucks.? I don't want to go overboard, but just curious how it works by screwing onto the front of the lens...Thanks Darlene
If you plan on using the TC with the 18-200mm lens, save your money! If it is a filter type add on lens, the IQ would be bad at best. The 18-200mm was never designed to be used with TC's, in fact the Nikkor TC's will not even mount on the lens. Be aware if you mount a TC on the lens it is very likely that both the TC and the lens will be damaged when the rear element of the lens hits the front element of the TC. Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!
The "screw on the front" converters are common with Point & Shoot cameras, but I don't think he'd like the image quality with one on his 18-200mm.
Nikon tele-converters shouldn't be used on the 18-200mm. Even if you could, however, you lose light when you add a converter and slow lenses (max. aperture @ 200mm is f/5.6 with this lens) will not auto-focus very well with them.
Hey thanks guys, I know I can always rely on you all for the very best and honest advice. Oh, and we both loved the used 18-200 from b&h photo. It looks like it just came off the press. I'm sooooo glad I went with your advice and went with a respectable dealer. I love you guys....Darlene
