"New D40"

South Bend, US

Got me a new D40 and my head is swimming.. In the pre set modes such as landscape, sport, child and others. Are they adjustable? If so what can be adjusted?

Mostly you can only change the ISO, flash settings, and the AF area mode. Just about everything else is locked. You can get a bit more flexable in P mode and obviously full control in manual.

Did it come with a manual? LoL. I picked up a new D60 when I was with the family in Bali last month and have only read the first few pages. But I'll get there eventually.

stick with the creative exposure modes( the M,A,S,P)

IMO: those "point and shoot" modes are pretty useless.. it defeats the purpose of getting a DSLR.. if you would rely on those(p&s) modes you are better off with an point and shoot..

don't be afraid to tinker about it..

check this link.. i hope this can help.. http://bulbinthedark.blogspot.com/2008/07/program-modes-101.html
