"May and June photo post, Musical Instruments and people playing"

Memphis, US

Lets see the best shots of people enjoying music or playing musical instruments. Plus shots of the instruments themselves are also welcome(ie concert shots, plays, bands or artistic shots of the instruments themselves). This is going to be hard but should provide some excellent shots.

Rules:
--Post as many images as you like but only one image/post
--Include shooting info like lens, white balance, filters used…
--Previously posted images are welcome
--When posting images please do so by hitting the ‘Reply’ link below this top post, not the reply link to another post.
--Include a title in the subject line when you post

Shot at the University of York's Battle of the Bands 2008. Used my D50 with the kit lens (18-55) at 18mm f/3.5. Auto ISO was on to keep shutter speeds above 1/60 where possible so this image came out with an ISO of 1600. Plenty of grain in it but the conversion to B&W does a lot for it.

Don't have all the technical details of the image, but shot with strobes in my home studio with a D200, 37-70mm lens. Used a home made cardboard cookie to create the pattern on the background

Here is a shot of some friends performing flamenco music and dance. Shot with a D200, 35-70mm lens, f/8 1/125, AB800 strobes, post processed with Photoshop. Not a great image technically, but I like the emotion of the dancer.

That's a really nice shot with nice color, and creamy lighting. I like the angle to the keys, I think, but its hard twisting my head.

I recommend you supply a larger version (at least 600 pixels) that's properly rotated though.

This is one of the first shots I felt is good enough for anyone else to see.

I shot it using my D40x with 18-200mm lens. It was shot at 1/15" at F5.6 using Auto White Balance and Exposure using ISO 1600 and 105mm focal length.

Shot this photo at a saturday market event in Boise, Idaho. I used my new d60 w/ a 55-200mm nikkor lens. I used selective grayscaling in photoshop so that's how I got the black and white w/ some color. I'm pretty new to photography so I hope you guys like it.

Hi All,

This is my daughter playing my guitar. She got quite a hoot from the shoot.

D50 w/ 17-55mm kit lens, w/ UV filter.
Flash on
Shutter 1/125
Aperture f/5.6
Focal length 31mm
ISO 400

Editing w/iPhoto
Color level reset to approx 20%
Saturation reset to 52
Tint set to 13

Editing w/Adobe Photoshop Elements
Added text

Original photo was pretty dark. I was experimenting with backlighting and covering the flash w/ my hand. Not sure if this photo had the flash blocked or not.

Take care.

edg

PS: The high density version looks much better.

Here is a shot taken from my younger daughter's band performance (she is not in this, as she plays the soprano sax). Other comments are beneath the picture on the Nikonian gallery.

Here are some I have taken recently.

Bands are:
Evaline: myspace.com/evaline
Dredg: myspace.com/dredg

(Yes, he really does play piano and play the drums. Amazing musician(s) in both bands.)
