""Official" January and February photo post - "Missing"""

"Missing" - Photos depicting something that should be there but is not.

Since an official contest for the month of January has not started yet, I hope I'm not too presumptuous in suggesting a topic for a photo post. Holmes gave a second to my nomination for a topic so here we go!

Great I decided to anchor this and make it official! Thanks for the help!

Heres the Rules:

Rules:
--Post as many images as you like but only one image/post
--Include shooting info like lens, white balance, filters used…
--Previously posted images are welcome
--When posting images please do so by hitting the ‘Reply’ link below this top post, not the reply link to another post.
--Include a title in the subject line when you post (optional)

The top five images will be selected by the previous months winner and be included in a poll for members to vote for the winning photo. The winning image with be added to our new Monthly Challenge Winners Gallery

Excellent capture, Dean, and a great way to launch the contest!

I'll have something tomorrow but you've certainly set a high standard right off the starting line - Bravo

Where are my trees ?

Taken on Highway 161 in Washington State (Close to Mount Rainier). Sadly didn't get as many (or as good) shots as I'd have liked as I was standing with a tripod in the emergency lane of a (albeit single-land) freeway.

Here's my shot. Took this last night at the legislature buildings in Victoria BC. It wasn't the easiest shot to get, partially because I had forgot my big tripod so I had to use the small one.

Details:
I dialed in a -2 EV to get the effect, this gave me values of:
1/10s @ f/3.5
18-70mm AF-S @ 18mm
ISO 200
Matrix Metering
D40

In post processing I just adjusted WB slightly to give the light a whiter colour and I cranked up the blacks to eliminate any parts of the building that had shown up on the picture.

Thanks.

I was inspired by, can you believe it, a cell phone picture. Seeing that I figured there must be a way to replicate it on my D40. Took a bit of figuring but that's where digital is really nice!
