"Official unoffical October challenge - Outdoors"

Melbourne, AU

Lets start this thread again ssing as I can no longer edit the tille of the original one.
The consensus seems to be that the title of the unofficial October photo challenge should be "Outdoors"

I really like this one. Only disturbance is the rear view mirror

Here's one I shot this summer with the D50, 18-55 kit lens and a Hoya R72 IR-filter. A little post processing in PS and this is what came out. Sure is outdoors too

I'm not usually a fan of people in IR shots, but this is a nice one. Have you thought about cropping it into a portrait?

I layed down on the sidewalk and shot upwards. It's probably my favorite of all the images I shot during my trip.

Greetings all. New Nikonian here and thought I might as well join in the fun of the "Official Unofficial photo challenge"

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h132/GillesML/Geese%20and%20Squirels%20and%20a%20Horse%20Oh%20MY/DSC_0716_edited-1.jpg

Took it last Saturday while out at a friends farm. Original reason for going was to take pictures of the horse they are trying to sell but as always I got a little carried away and took pictures of anything and everything. And could not passup taking a few shots of the glass smooth pond and reflection. It is quite boring and composition seems off. But you just have to love near mirror reflections in water.

Oh and please forgive the small size, quality and watermark. Got fed up of seing my paintball pictures show up on other sites with others taking credit for the shots.

Welcome Gilles. That's a really nice shot, and I don't find it boring at all. To me it screams, or rather whispers, tranquillity. It's so peaceful, there's no movement. It looks like the kind of place you might go and sit down to just reflect on everything on your mind.

Yes nice and tranquil till the 18 wheelers running down the highway that just so happens to be about 100" to the right of the picture start rolling by .

I guess that's one advantage of still photography over video and real life .

Love the moose. And I just hate the fact that getting an animal to pose is more diffucult than a 5 year old on a sugar rush .

Also went to your album and just stared at the hummingbird for quite a while. Great shot.

Thanks for the kind words Gilles. I visited your albums... but I am on dialup.. lol so I didn't visit too long. I like your candid protraits especially liked the shots from the back seat of the car. A unique perspective. Also the upper Canada village shots.

It's taken a while but here are a couple from me. I have taken "Outdoors" in the widest possible sense.

Dromana foreshore. Melbourne is known for these. If Melbourne was in the USA we would be "world famous".
http://static.flickr.com/99/272969761_a0e72909a1_b.jpg

Outdoor activity. "Mum" participating the one of the largest organised bicycle rides in the world - 14,200 riders on 4 courses ranging from 42km to 250km (Mum did the 250km ride). This is number 1 son supporting Mum with only 20km to go and dusk falling after 12 hours of riding.

Well, this is my first ever photo post. Been lurking for a year, and found it time too come out of my shell. I thought it appropriate, since Fall colors are getting prime in Michigan.

Shot these last Sunday a Mayberry State Park in Northville, MI while testing out a new Sigma 18-50 f/2.8.
I appreciate your comments.

Try Flickr, you can have a free account for free!
Smugmug and Pbase seem to be the two favourites but personally I'm happy with Flickr and will be upgrading to a $25pa "Pro" account.

I also like your second pic. I love those wagons, you don't see things like that in Australia.

Hi Andy,

I like the 2nd shot, and I'm very surprised to see Mayberry park. I grew up around there and I've mountain biked & hiked about every trail back there.

I'm sure there's many great photo ops to be found at Mayberry. It's a nice gem of wilderness in the middle of suburbia.

Thanks for the critiques.

Mayberry is quite a beautiful place for being so buried in the 'burbs. Evrything is so developed here now. It's funny, as I have never shot at mayberry before, after all of this time. I will definately be visiting often.

AS for the photo sharing sites, thanks for the suggestions. I am still insure as to what to do. Apple's iWeb seems to resize all my photos and I cannot get exif info to stick with them. So I am on the move to something soon.

Thanks Again,
Andy

Flickr will rescale "free" accounts to a maximum of 1024 pixels wide but "Pro" accounts are okay it also retains Exif data if your PP program leaves it there.

Hi,

This is my first time posting images here. These are three photographs from a recent trip to Dolly Sods, WV. These photos where done using a D50, the first used a 70-300G lens and the other two used the 18-55 that comes in the kit. The shots where taken using landscape mode as this was my first trip with the camera and I am still learning it's functions. I hope you enjoy.

Well it's hard to come close to some of the great photos here but I figured it was time I joined in after lurking for about a year. That's about how long I've had my D50, actually since last November. I've got a lot of great info here.

Anyway here's a few photos from Oct 15th of the Pautuxet River taken with the D50 and 18-55mm kit lens. The Beech tree leaves wwere taken in my greenhouse of a Potensai (potential bonsai). I used a monopod for all of them.

Took these pictures at Hocking Hills, OH over the weekend. I used by D50, 18-55mm lens and a tripod.

Old Man's cave:

http://static.flickr.com/116/285987966_5be5852134_b.jpg

For these pictures are experimented with long shutter times to get the nice waterfall effects. Is this maybe causing the over exposure (blown highlights) I am seeing?

Thanks,

Marcel.

First post here. Great forum.

I am still a newbie with the camera, but have been having a lot of fun.

Here are a couple pics I took this (now) past October with my D50 and the cheapie 28-80 Nikkor lens while out and about fishing:

The tree outside my garage on a rare sunny afternoon! Just my D50, 18-70 lens and a polarizing filter. A bit of unsharp masking was the only processing.

Although we are already left "October" I send two D50 photos taken in the Finnish archipelago by night. One is from early October (18 mm, 2,0 s, f/3,5) and the other from the mid July (55 mm, 1/125 s, f/5,6).
