How do you hook up a strobe to the D50
I am deciding if I should buy the D50 or D70s but I read that the D50 can not use a slave on a flash. Has anybody hooked a strobe on it using the AS-15 adapter?

The D50 can not use the CLS slave system but it can use any other photoslave system like SU-4. It can use the SB 800 as a master and maybe the rumored SU-800 master controller.
There is not reason why the AS-15 adapter will not work. If it did not we would have had a lot of posts from unhappy users.
If you are asking this question, my advise buy the D70. They stripped some nice stuff out of the D50 including the grids and the more reliable CF cards. (Photolab tech in Salem Or said he had a lot of failures with SD cards)

For serious studiowork the D70 is propably better choice,
whereas D50 is aimed for beginners and "optimized" for generic shooting.
I chosed the D50 because i wanted low noise and low moire,
surely i miss some of the functions that the D70(s) have but i can live without them.
SD as well as CF cards are only as reliable as manufacturers make them,
buy one from a reputable manufacturer and there shouldn't be problems.
I can imagine that there are lots of bad SD cards in the market as
it is the most popular memory card format with 40% market share.
