"Very simple question...D50 newbie"

Sorry for the dumb question, I bought my wife a D50 about a month ago, when I got it I checked it out for a day and then hid it because I was giving it to her today as a gift. My question is this: I thought I remembered the day I got it that on Auto when you pressed the shutter button half way the focus areas in the viewfinder turned green once it focused and remained that way until the picture was taken. Right now all that happens when you focus is the focus areas are red for a second and then you take the picture. Am I just remembering WRONG, or is something wrong or not working right?

I think that you are remembering incorrectly. The focus bracket will flash red to show that it is selected. The in focus indicator is in the bottom left of the viewfinder. This will stay solid green when you have the shutter button down 1/2 way and the image is in focus.

Hope this helps!
