Nikon-imaging Japan link for the MB-D80 does not work though.

Well Thom posted a msg saying this is in line with the information he recieved. I believe Thom when it comes to these things.

Also, it says that the WT-3 will fit the D80. This leads me to believe that the D80 body will be similar to that of the D200. As such, it also may lead me to believe the picts we have seen of the D80 to be fakes since they were based more on the D50 body rather than the D200.

All speculations at this point. The announcement date is not far off so I can wait.

I saw with my own eyes MB-D80, WT for D80, and CF-D80 were listed on the nikon imaging Japan page. Yet the link did not work so I did not get to see the specs. They must have removed.

CF-D80? Something to do with compact flash? Intriguing

I believe this is a semi-soft case as in "CF-D50 Semi-Soft Case".

If WT-3 fits D80, MB-D200 should fit also - so what is the reason for MB-D80?

WT-3 will have to fit D80 with MB-D80 only.

We know D80 and D200 are different in body shape. For WT3 to fit both D80 and D200, MB-D80 has to be in between.

I checked the Nikon webpage this morning and the references to the D80 are gone now.

Nikon are good with "teasers".
There have been what seem accidental "deliberate" leaks with previous launches with Nikon Australia and one of the Nikon Europe web sites that I can recall.
From Nikon's perspective whilst Nikon users speculate they tend not to think Alpha or Canon.

Photography is a bit like archery. A technically better camera, lens or arrow may not hit the target as often as it could if the photographer or archer does not practice enough.

Of all of the 'speculation' I've read about the D80 so far, this is the most exciting.

Initial reports indicated that the D80 wouldn't have a dedicated vertical grip, something that I have sorely missed with my D70. I was seriously considering a D200 even though I didn't feel the need (or expense) to go with a full-metal-jacket and super frame rate.

But this posting has made my day (week/month/year) and has me on tenderhooks again (only two more sleeps)

SD cards I can live with - probably would have purchased a couple of new cards with the camera anyway (along with a couple of new batteries).

I agree with an earlier post - if this news gels with what Thom believes of the D80, then that's good enough for me.

Now I'm really salivating.
