"Please help with my settings"

picked up the D80 after a long time sitting, and in any program mode, ASP, the images are very dark. i am only getting a correct exposure in auto exposure mode. I was probably fiddling in the menu, but durned if i can find any odd settings. i even went back to default settings to no avail. what setting would effect exposure in every mode except auto?

check your exposer compensation.it may be set a few stops to the negative.that would affect a,s, and m modes.auto mode would ignore it. Troy

there is no problem to big or small that can't be fixed with brute strength and ignorance visit my gallery

Hi Mark,

Troy is right.
The most common cause is you have dialed in some negitive Exposure Compensation. Check the top LCD or the LCD in the viewfinder: the Exposure Compensation icon +/- should be highlighted with the camera in P,S,A, or M exposure modes.
If you press the +/- button above the shutter release button it will be displayed it the top LCD. While pressing the button rotate the Command dial (Thumbwheel) until 0.0 is in the LCD dispay.

Best Regards,
Marty

that was it. I doubt I would have found it on my own, i was focused on the menu. I probably changed it somehow when i was testing my focus.
