"Does AC adaptor charge in-camera battery?"
Fri 28-Dec-12 04:01 PM by SWIMR

Thinking about getting the AC adaptor to use in situations where the D90 camera battery may be getting low, but still need to shoot more images. Wondering whether, once connected to the adaptor, will the battery in the camera begin to charge as I continue shooting? Thanks!

The answer is no - connecting the D90 to its AC adapter does not charge the camera battery. The adapter just powers the camera.

Unless you need the adapter for other reasons, a spare camera battery or two might provide a simpler and more flexible solution.

Thanks for the quick response...and the good advice about spare battery vs charger. I'll definitely go that route now.

Added note for the external D90 power supply:

Although an AC adapter doesn't charge the internal battery, I've found it very useful for computer controlled time-lapse photos over several hours (flower openings, astrophotography, etc). Batteries can't be trusted for the time needed even if using a multi-power battery pack. Rather than use high dollar Nikon battery pack, I use a lower cost Zeikos ZE-NBG90 for higher capacity battery sessions. For time-lapse sessions running several hours to all night, I change to Nikon's Camera Control Pro 2 and external power with a 12volt UPS setup. Boils down to your specific application.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, interesting topic.
How about this - does the camera receive any charge when it is attached to a computer using the USB?

If yes, could this be an alternative to the initial question?

Terry.

That's still a "no", I'm afraid
