"D90 - Deleting pictures from the camera"

I haven't been able to use my D90 as much as I expected, so there are still many features that I don't know how to use or, even worse, that I don't know where to find them.

This is a new PC where I am now, DELL XPS 8500. I used to have a program (actually 3 sofware) to download pictures from the camera but decided to try Nikon ViewNX2 instead.

Other programs would allow me to delete all fotos from the camera once the download is complete. I could not find the possibility with ViewNX2.

All pictures are now on my hard drive but also in the camera's card. Is it possible to connect my Nikon D90 again to the PC and have ViewNX2 delete all of them from the camera?

Is is possible to delete all of them from the D90 directly without using my PC. I only knew how to delete from the camera manually but only one by one, and I am talking now about hundreds of pics.

It's better practice to format the memory card in the camera - you should really do this anyway, even if you've previosly deleted images off the card using your computer. Formatting leaves you with a card containing no images and ready for re-use, and can be done using camera buttons (see page 30 in the manual) or via the Setup Menu (page 202).

Brian,it's amazing how easy it was. I read both pages, 30 and 202, and decided to go with the instructions on page 202: just 2 steps and all pictures were deleted!

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi Marcial.

Deleting after uploading?

You could try this:
- Use Nikon Transfer (I am using version 1.1.1)
- go to the 'Preferences' tab
- check the 'Delete Original Files After Transfer'.

I don't use the feature myself (yet); it may work for you.

Please use it with caution though. Just think, if after you download, there is a problem and somehow it doesen't get to where you want it, and you have it checked off as deleting, there is the potential of loosing your images completely.

Terry.
