Is anyone else having issues with third party remote switches working consistently with their D90??

I have tried both the Bower RCLN3R and the Satechi TM series. Both claim to operate on the D90. Both fit into the GPS port. However, they work intermittently (for me). I can't figure out why they work sometimes (usually when I am sitting in my living room) and not others (in the field).

I wanted to use these brands because of the timer features. The Nikon MC DC2 does not have a timer feature.

Since I am having the same problem with two differnet remotes, could the problem be with my D90 (the GPS port)? And, if so, what do I do about it? Or, is this what I can expect from third party providers?

Does anyone have a good experience suggestion for a remote switch with a timer feature?

Consider using a laptop and ControlMyNikon. It works for my D5100, and allows scripting for a bracketed timer.

Well, I think that I figured out the problem. I decided to buy a Nikon brand shutter release - MC-DC2. It did not work either.

So, now I figure that the issue is a malfunctioning GPS port.

In researching this issue, it seems as though it is a common occurance on D90's - more so from folks who actually use it for GPS devices.

Has anyone had this problem? How did you resolve it? What did it cost? And has the new one been error free?
